This term we had World Book Day and our school theme was Roald Dahl. So our writing was based around the story of The Twits. The focus of the week was to write a description of one of the characters. Using a brilliant drawing of Mr Twit, the children came up with some amazing adjectives to describe him and then put them into some brilliant sentences. By the end of the week, the children had written some fantastic descriptions of Mr Twit and drew some very interesting portraits of him. Well done everyone!
This week, we have started looking at Traditional Tales. We have chosen to read The 3 Little Pigs. The children have learned actions and followed a story map to retell the story, so they can perform it to an audience. We are really impressed with everyone’s enthusiasm.
Last week, we were learning about number sequences. The children are fantastic at following sequences using their 2x, 5x and 10x tables, and they have even started to sequence more challenging sets of numbers. From there, we have been looking at place value and working out numbers from smallest to biggest by looking at how many lots of 10s and 1s are in different numbers.
This week, we have been learning all about how to measure length using our feet. The children worked in pairs to measure how far they could jump. From there, the teachers had a go themselves and the children looked at their results from a table and put them into a block diagram. Now, we are learning how to analyse data and answer questions about who jumped the longest and shortest length.
This half term, we are carrying on with our Materials topic. Because we have been reading the 3 little pigs, we have been looking at which type of materials would be best to build a house out of. The children had a feel of different materials that they could use and came up with the best one for building with. They gave reasons for why they have chosen that material. They also had a go at building a house with their chosen material.
In topic, we are still learning about Weather. The children have written a fantastic poem about the different weather types using the senses. They thought about what they can see, hear and touch when the weather changes. Some imaginative ideas were given.
Last week, we have started to learn the basics of basketball. The children have been practising their dribbling skills.
World Book Day
Infant 1 had a fun filled day on World Book Day. There were lots of fun activities going on around school and the children loved it.. We were able to look at and hold different animals like a bearded dragon, a snake and a millipede. We also had a visitor from a fun scientist who showed us different experiments. We all had a fantastic day! Some amazing costumes from the children. Fantastic effort.
