‘The Colour Monster’ by Anna Llenas

 Today the colour monster is feeling very mixed up. He’s yellow, blue, red, black and green all at once. Can you help him? This stunning picture book explores colours and feelings in a fun and gentle way.

 Year 1 have really enjoyed exploring their feelings and understanding that we all feel different ways at different times. We have had excellent discussions about our feelings and what we can do to help ourselves when we are feeling down. We have even enjoyed creating our own colour monsters in class!

 Colby says, ‘I liked the story because it matches colours to different feelings. Yellow is a happy colour.’

 Aiza explains, ‘It’s been nice to talk about my feelings. I feel happy at home and in school because I get to learn new things.’

 Precious asserts, ‘red is angry like a fire. Sometimes we all feel angry. My brother makes me angry sometimes but I still love him. Love is red too like a heart, and sometimes pink.’
