Do you want to build a snowman?
Year 1 are currently completing work surrounding a short film. This has been completely new for our children with them never having looked at one before. It has been something which they have thoroughly enjoyed and really got stuck into!
The name of the short film is 'Lily and the Snowman' and follows a young child who creates a snowman and then puts it into the freezer to keep it from melting. The girl ages and as this happens, she begins to forget about her snowman. In the end, the woman is reminded of her snowman and reunites with it, recalling stories from her past.
The children have been excellent at using adjectives to describe the winter months and have even written a setting description for Antarctica. What's more, they have gone one step further by creating a setting description for a place of their choice. Some have chosen the beach, a haunted house and even Africa, making sure they use adjectives in order to describe the things they can see, hear and feel.
Eliza says, "I liked how even though she became an adult, she didn't forget about the snowman in the end."
Isaiah agrees, "It made me happy when she found him again."
Yasir concludes, "I wrote about a haunted house and even had haunted sharks which were chasing me!"
For his setting description Omar wrote, ‘In the black woods I can see a broken rooftop. On top are dangerous spikes.’
Cora imagined, ‘The ocean was calm but you can hear the big splashes of a blue whale.’
Excel described, ‘I can hear angels crying for help to get away from giant, booming footsteps.’
