Hotel Flamingo!

Hotel Flamingo

This half term, we are reading a fantastically entertaining story called Hotel Flamingo, by Alex Milway.

When young Anna inherits a dilapidated once-grand hotel from her Great Aunt Mathilde, she's determined to restore it to its former glory. But this is no ordinary hotel -all her staff and guests are animals!

Anna soon rises to the challenge. Whether it's a flamingo, a penguin or a hippo knocking at the door, Anna is ready to welcome them all - with the help of her trusty sidekicks T Bear the doorman, Squeak the friendly elevator mouse, and Lemmy the lemur receptionist ... As she soon finds out, though, running an animal hotel is no easy task. Can Anna make Hotel Flamingo a success once more?

The characters all have such different and interesting personalities!

The pupils have enjoyed getting to know the characters, particularly the grumpy, highly opinionated, and rude Madame La Pig, who’s the hotel’s new chef. She is not happy with how the hotel is managed and makes her feelings known!

Hilary Hippo is another funny character who the children have enjoyed reading about. She is the cleaner, who just so happens to be allergic to dust!

The pupils are enjoying the delightful cast of characters so far and the positive values promoted by hotel owner Anna. They particularly love the way that the hotel is ready to welcome creatures, like cockroaches, that other hotels in the area were unwilling to accept and there is a clear message that the hotel is a better place because of its warmth and diversity.
